Starfish Taylor
At first it’s not clear what Starfish Taylor is or who it is. Similar to great brands like Apple, you have no idea what it does. And I love that. I find it deeply satisfying when people ask me where our name comes from…
Starfish…
Just like our events, I designed the name around a number of themes that are important to the brand. Most significant is our people-focused approach. Each group starts together, then we send them out in different teams to complete an exercise or challenge, then we bring them back….send them out…bring them back. Viewed from above, it resembles a starfish…central at the core, then out in teams, in similar formation as the legs of a starfish. Convergence, divergence, convergence, divergence, convergence, and eventually, contentment and rewarding results.
The Starfish itself is also somewhat hard to discover, you have to really look for it. When you do find one, it is mesmerizing. They are beautiful and unique. Which is similar to our vision — to find the hidden jewels of thoughts, ideas, and solutions within people. When such ideas come out in our sessions it’s a real “ah-ha” moment. Much like the expression on a kid’s face when they find a starfish on the shoreline: pure joy and amazement. We see that look often as our clients see amazing ideas springing from their teams.

We like to think that we take our clients on journeys tailored specifically for their teams. We certainly use time-travel a lot in our designs to draw out ideas by placing people into different points of view. So a participant at our workshops is somewhat of a time-traveler. An adventurer. Sometimes alone, and sometimes with teammates. But always looking ahead for fun and excitement.
I wanted a company name that gave this sense of adventure and travel. And combining Taylor with the Starfish, I came up with Starfish Taylor.
